LEMONGRASS:

Not exactly large scale farming, but an illustration of locals growing specific crops for profit.

Another illustration of the casual, time-free community life here. A neighbour and friend was busy harvesting her roadside lemongrass, so Gaun pulled over for a chat.

She does this every year and gets a good crop to make a bit of extra money.

I hate to tell the price for those of you who enjoy Asian food, but aren't in Thailand. 10 baht a kilo.

A lot more to go. Gaun's family house is that one with the white wall you see in the background. Our land starts on my right out of photo.

720 baht a kilo in Australia. Comparing wholesale and retail I know, but even so 555

Thanks for reading.
