After dropping my daughter off at Udon Thani airport to return to Chiang Mai for a few days, we stopped off at a garden centre we often use to get a few select plants. I spotted this heliconia psittacorum (parrot's beak, parakeet flower, parrot's flower, parrot's plantain, false bird-of-paradise), but a variegated version, which I have never seen (or noticed) before. On the basis on my guiding principle to buying unusual plants, if you see it buy it, we picked up this one. I also didn't know that they are happy in water, or so we were told, so this version has ended up in the new pond we created, which is looking better every day.
Thanks for reading.
